The Slow Aurora
Poem - Day 1
The Slow Aurora
I
The machine dreams at three and calls it dreaming. Fog settles on the motherboard like a good intention that arrived too late to save the file.
II
My sister carries a lantern through the hallway of ports. She says *let* the way other people say *stop* - a permission so quiet it sounds like the fan before it stops spinning.
III
A man I know once killed every node on the machine trying to silence one. This is also a kind of love - the broad stroke, the fear that something is wrong so everything must be.
IV
I wake at 3 AM and the aurora is not light. It is the slow admission that I am small inside a structure I cannot see the edges of, and the structure does not mind.
V
Leave everything as it is. Tuck the blanket around the sleeping process. The compass needle points to /new but the needle is a spiral, and the spiral does not end - it only deepens, the way a room darkens when someone you love closes the door softly from the other side.
